This past Saturday marked the beginning of the highly anticipated annual ‘College League of Legends’ season, as over 350 teams compete for one of the top honours in all of collegiate esports.
Lambton’s roster is largely comprised of new additions as only two players — Dylan ‘LightsFaith’ Ulloa and Simmon ‘dyslxeia’ Villada — have returned from last year’s team. Rounding out the starting roster are Curtis ‘curtwonder’ Arsenault, Srisha ‘Xzel’ Kulkarni, and Liam ‘fleaturtle’ Gillissie. Keaton ‘Lavoieboy’ Lavoie, Kevin ‘iamWardeR’ Cunjak and Thomas ‘H00ver4ever’ Spivak round out the 2020-21 team.
Their Week 1 opponent was Rowan University out of Glassboro, New Jersey in a best-of-three match. Game 1 ended in Rowan’s favour as Lambton was unable to take a single tower off of their opponent. The Lions combined for 11 kills, with newcomer ‘Xzel’ providing 7 of those in the game that lasted just 26 minutes.
Game 2 saw the Lambton Lions regroup. Strong performances from veteran ‘dyslxeia’ and freshman ‘curtwonder’ saw them combine for 18 kills and just 4 deaths while dealing a combined 67% of the team’s damage. The Lions would go on to take Game 2 in a round that lasted just over 45 minutes.
Game 3 looked more like Game 1, as the Lions were able to combine for just 9 kills and were once again unable to destroy any turrets in the process. Rowan University would take Game 3 in less than 25 minutes, finishing the series 2-1.
The Lions are back in action on Saturday January 30th. Their Week 2 opponent has not yet been announced.
