Momentum favoured the Lambton Lions Rocket League team (4-2) heading into their final match of 2020 in OPSE regular season play. Having won 3 straight matches, their opponent was the Ryerson Rams who were 2-5 heading into the contest.
Game 1 proved to be a defensive showcase for both squads. Krusty would open the scoring for Ryerson 1:18 into the match. Although both sides were able to create several scoring opportunities, Ryerson’s lone goal would be enough to give them the Game 1 win, 1-0.
Game 2 would be a reversal of fortune for Lambton, but with an identical score. SadBean tallied his first goal of the match with 3:02 remaining on the clock, and that would prove to be the only goal of the game. Lions take Game 2 1-0.
Game 3 would see the scoring open up for both teams. Fowler netted his first of the match for Lambton just 9 seconds into the game. Ahrupt would add his first marker for Lambton less than two minutes later, and would add his second goal halfway through the game. Ahrupt completed his hat trick just 5 seconds later. Krusty and Willymandem added a pair of late goals for Ryerson, but Fowler would extend Lambton’s lead with 12 seconds remaining, sealing Game 3 for the Lions 5-2.
A pair of early goals from Ahrupt would start Game 4 in favour of Lambton once again. As the two teams would trade goals back and forth the rest of the way, Ahrupt added a third for his second consecutive hat trick, giving the Lions a 4-2 win in Game 4, sealing the Best-of-5 match in favour of the Lions 3-1.
With the win, the Lambton Lions conclude the first half of the OPSE season with a 5-2 record, tied for 3rd in the league with the University of Waterloo and Carleton University. The Lions will start the second half of the season on Monday January 11, 2021 vs. the Fanshawe Falcons.
