Now composed of 6 various video games, the Lambton Esports Open (LEO) has returned.
This year’s event is a combination of a month-long league and a three-day long event on March 27th to 29th. The league – which begins on Saturday — consists of FIFA 20, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and NHL 20 for scholarship opportunities, while the grand finals weekend in March will be composed of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Fortnite and Rocket League tournaments for cash prizes. Prize pools start at $750 CAD for Smash Ultimate and Rocket League, and $1000 CAD for Fortnite. These prize pools will increase with pot bonuses depending on number of participants.
The Lambton Esports Open had tremendous success hosting its one-day event in 2019, with over 80 participants across 3 games. This year, with the LEO coinciding with Lambton College’s Spring Open House, the event could see upwards of 120 participants and countless more spectators.
The LEO is facilitated completely by the students in Lambton College’s Esports Entrepreneurship and Administration program, the first business-oriented post-secondary esports program in North America. This initiative is intended to provide students with the first-hand experience of creating a fully functional esports event while cultivating the local community.
