The Lambton Lions needed a pair of wins against two strong opponents heading into the final weekend of the regular season of Collegiate Cold War presented by SteelSeries. Up first was Carleton University who sported a similar 3-1 record heading into this past Saturday. Unfortunately for the Lions, Carleton took the best-of-5 with a 3-0 sweep, virtually eliminating the Lions from playoff contention.
Monday night would give the Lions one last chance for the playoffs, but the tight battle with the University of Illnois’ Illini Blue team would not yield the result Lambton needed. Game 1 (Hardpoint) favoured Illini Blue by a 250-248 margin. Game 2 (Search & Destroy) was also taken by Illini Blue 6-4, and Game 3 (Control) was lost in Round 5 by Lambton.
With that, the Lions Call of Duty team finishes with a 3-3 record, good enough for 40th place in the 89-team Collegiate Cold War tournament.
The Lions now prepare for this Thursday’s match vs. Saints Gaming from St. Clair College in the annual Border City Battle event.
