Momentum was in favour of the Lions heading into the second half of the OPSE season. Lambton had won four consecutive matches prior to the holiday break, improving their record to 5-2. The Fanshawe Falcons were 2-6 heading into the clash between the rival Highway 402 schools.
Lambton’s Ahrupt would instantly prove to be the difference-maker in Game 1 scoring 3 consective goals in the opening minute, just 27 seconds apart. Fanshawe’s ToekneeS96 would reply with a pair of goals of his own in rapid succession before Sin would counter for Lambton. Ahrupt added his fourth goal of the match in the dying seconds to give Lambton the 5-2 win.
Game 2 saw Ahrupt once again make an immediate impact with a goal just 19 seconds into the contest. Boxes would tie it up for Fanshawe for the moment before Sin added two goals in the final two minutes. Lions take Game 2 by a score of 3-1.
Game 3 was the lowest scoring game of the series and would require overtime after Ahrupt and Kenneric traded goals. Continuing his offensive outburst right to the end, Ahrupt added the overtime winner just 27 seconds into the extra frame, giving Game 3 to the Lions 2-1, sealing the best-of-5 series 3-0.
The Lambton Lions improve to 6-2 on the season, putting them in a 4-way tie for 2nd place in OPSE. Up next, the Lions will attempt to dethrone OPSE’s top team, the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees who sport a 7-0 (21-3) record. That match is scheduled for Friday January 22 at 6pm.
