Over the past weekend, Lambton College’s 6-2 Rocket League team took down the undefeated 8-0 University of Ottawa Gee-Gees in overtime. Team manager and captain, Gavin Storozuk, believes that good teamwork is the key to help making Lambton one of the best Rocket League teams in the Ontario Post-Secondary Esports league (OPSE).
Gavin began gaming at an early age playing Mario Kart Wii with his brother in Sarnia, Ontario. In 2016/2017, he began playing Rocket League and has continued since then.
Storozuk’s initial interest in Lambton College began with the Esports Entrepreneurship and Administration program as he “loves the esports industry and business at the same time.”
He also states, “I knew joining this course would show me the behind the scenes of the esports industry and show the hosting and running of large scale esports events.”
His long-time love for everything esports brought him to the College for academics, but it also earned him a starting position on the Rocket League varsity team in 2019. Storozuk still holds one of the starting positions for the team.
Gavin has repeatedly stated how teamwork has helped them throughout the 2020-2021 season. He says that his teammates, Sin and Fowler, “are both really great teammates and learning something new from them is always easy and useful.”
Gavin’s confidence in his teammates speaks volumes of the trust they have with each other, “I believe they can do it better than me without even trying. That’s how good of teammates they are.”
This trust is essential in the success of teams, proving that each member is very skilled and will perform their task effectively. Teams that gel together well and can learn from each other are always the ones to look out for. Communication is extremely important, and Lambton’s team seems to be gaining team chemistry exponentially with each match played.
“I believe we are a super underrated team as we have beat crazy teams in the past,” Storozuk mentions. “We have beat CRL teams and taken games off top teams.”
If Lambton College’s underdogs can keep up their excellent chemistry, communication, and trust; both the OPSE and the Collegiate Rocket League (CRL) have a fierce team to watch out for this season.
