Lambton College is teaming up with Adamas Esports to conduct a multi-phase research study on the impact of mental and physical wellbeing training for esport athletes, as well as these training services impact on gaming performance. This study will cover topics related to gaming, health, lifestyle, and psychology. The research team includes principal investigator James Grant, SAC General Manager and Esports Varsity Coordinator; student investigator Nicholas Kahosed-Trebics from the Esports Entrepreneurship and Administration program; and Ashley Hutchinson Research and Outreach Developer from the Research and Innovation department at Lambton College, as well as Adamas Esports researchers Jake Middleton and Matt Fisher. We are looking to recruit Lambton College Varsity Esport athletes to participate in this research project.
We are trying to see the relationship between mental and physical wellbeing training services and its impact on gaming performance. We are looking to understand if remote-based mental and physical wellness training can positively impact health and performance behaviours/outcomes of college esports players. This study will hopefully provide in-depth understanding into the impact of these services on college esports athletes, particularly whether such services enhance gaming performance. As well, this study will hopefully provide a clearer answer to how and why such services may or may not improve athlete performance at the collegiate esports level.
The research team conducting this study is looking to invite esports athletes from Lambton College Varsity Esports teams, including League of Legends, Call of Duty, Rocket League, and Fortnite to participate in this study. We are looking for Lambton College Varsity Esports athletes to give approximately 8 hours of their time over the course of 8 weeks. Compensation will be provided to those participants.
The study involves Lambton College Esport athletes to complete a pre- and post- intervention online questionnaire and a pre- and post- intervention, one-on-one, structured interview conducted virtually through Microsoft Teams. As well, the study involves participants to virtually attend, 1 wellness seminar each month, 1 guided workout session each month, 1 coaching development sessions, and 1 mental skills training session each month for a total of 4 1-hour sessions a month over a two-month period.
If you are interested in participating and would like more information, or have any questions about participating in the study, email ashley.hutchinson@lambtoncollege.ca.
