The Lambton Lions Esports Rocket League team has experienced a resurgence this season. With a 3-1 record, the team is currently tied for first place in the NECC Emergents East Great Lakes division.
The first two weeks of the Spring 2023 season saw the Lions put up convincing 3-0 victories against McGill White and Fanshawe Fuel Academy respectively. Their winning ways continued in Week 3 where they defeated Guelph Gryphons Red by a score of 3-1.
The Lions suffered their first loss of the season in Week 4, where they were defeated by Queen’s University Tricolour 3-2. Despite this setback, player/coach Gavin ‘Ahrupt’ Storozuk is confident the team will see long-term success. “Success so far has definitely came down to communication on and off the game,” says Storozuk. “Our communication as a team has definitely improved from last semester and this is leading to a less stressful and more beneficial season. We definitely enjoy each other’s company more and this comes down to us communicating more. It’s also helping that we have more substitutes. This is because if one teammate can not attend the game we can still play at the given times. As a team we are overall just having more fun and when you are having fun, success tends to come.”
When asked if he enjoys his player role or coach’s role more: “I enjoy playing more but I also enjoy coaching. When I coach and spectate the Lambton team playing, I always want to be playing rather than watching. Although, I still do enjoy coaching and doing my best to help the players of the team.”
The team is coming off a bye week in Week 5 before their upcoming Week 6 match vs. OTSU Nyom on March 17th.
