The second instalment of the Sarnia Smash Series monthly event came to a dramatic conclusion on Sunday night.
‘Burst’ out of London, Ontario was one win away from his second consecutive Sarnia Smash Series tournament win. Last month, Burst captured both the Smash Singles and Squad Strikes titles with a combined 18-0 record. Having won the Squad Strikes event earlier in the day this past Sunday, Burst was riding a combined win streak of 35 matches heading into the singles final at Sarnia Smash Series 2.
Fellow London player ‘Slime’ had emerged out of the loser’s bracket to advance to the grand finals. In order for Slime to win the event, he would have to complete the daunting task of defeating Burst in two best-of-5 matches. Slime would successfully defeat Burst 3-2 to force a finals reset where Slime would win again with an identical score, capturing his first Sarnia Smash Series title and a $100 cash prize.
Sarnia Smash Series 3 will take place July 7 in the Lion’s Den at Lambton College. For more information, visit the Events page.
